I attended the eMINTS conference this past week and this blew my mind! You can make customized Google searches! That means that you pick the sites your kids search from. So cool, especially for those younger kiddos that are just learning to search.

By now, you all know my OBSESSION with Google. Tuesdays are going to be dedicated to Google Tips. I will also have a section in this blog dedicated to all things Google related. In the future, look for tutorials on my YouTube channel!

Back to Google Tip Tuesday! We all want to make sure our students learn how to "Google" in a smart way. We can't be there to monitor every search they make and we know they have to learn. There are some great options for this!

  • Google's Safe Search for Kids: Link this to any project or your homepage to help students make good choices. It overrides the settings you have on your computer without changing any settings permanently. You will still be able to use Google search like normal! There is a great description on the page if you follow the link.
  • Use http://scholar.google.com/ to search scholarly articles. It provides credible sources and the citations needed to give credit.
  • Want to change the reading level of searched items? Search for your topic in Google, choose the "Search Tools" option, "All results", and "Reading Level". This will allow you to filter your options for students.
